Behind the Scenes

It's Tuesday and we've been getting things in order for this coming weekend.  The flavors for the slices to be sold have all been chosen - the most popular:

Caramel Apple Spice
White Chocolate Raspberry
NY Style—Classic
Chocolate Strawberry Swirl
Chocolate Caramel
South Denmark Covered Bridge Mud
Trevor’s Buckeye

Come and enjoy a slice or two and enjoy our other items --
hot dogs, homemade chili, hot apple cider and other goodies.

It's always amazing how much work and detail goes into this weekend - checking off things on our "to-do list".  I ran up to the CBF office yesterday and picked up the "official souvenirs".  In the box were the volunteer t-shirts - they are blue this year and look really nice. (I'll take plenty of pictures which I'll post next week.)  Since I wear my SC t-shirt/sweatshirt, we give mine to our neigbor, Mr. Cramer, because he mows and trims the grass around the bridge.  It's a small gift we can give to him to thank him for all that he does.

This past weekend, Eric was trimming the trees, bushes and brush that had gotten a little out of hand around the bridge.  He also did some painting on the west side of the bridge and removed wasp and hornet nests that have accumulated in the eaves over the summer.

We'll be baking, cutting and topping cheesecakes over the next couple of days.  I've enjoyed the opportunity to devote most of my time to this weekend; I chose not to take any orders until after Oct. 12th - a two week suspension of outside orders.  In the past, I've done both and it was a lot to work on.

I feel blessed by many of our friends who have volunteered to want to come by and help out.  If you do, the weather is supposed to be cool - in the 50's - so dress warm.  And I haven't been down to the bridge the past week, but we did have a beaver dam on the south side of the bridge.  I'm wondering if it weathered the recent rainfall; so you might want to check it out and see if it is intact.

We hope to see you all there!

Until next time... happy baking!!
